Abstracted landscape of St Louis, MO -
I visited Cahokia Mounds once and stood atop the tallest mound. As I looked around me I tried to imagine what the Cahokia Indians saw in 1250 A.D.when their city population approached 40,000. As I gazed west I saw miles of trees and imagined the plains hitting the Mississippi River. There was no way for them to know how that different horizon would look almost 1000 years later.
