The Rio Grande is the fourth longest river system in North America, beginning in south central Colorado and flowing out 1900 miles later to the Gulf of Mexico. Along the way the land it flows through varies from forested mountains, to bare rock canyons, through the dessert of the southwest and subtropical ecosystems until it ends in a small sandy delta at the Gulf of Mexico. This painting is an abstracted landscape inspired by the kind of satellite imagery seen on the Google Earth and NASA websites and reflects some of this river's journey.
- Two 30 x 40 x 1.5 inch gallery wrap canvases - wired and ready to hang
- Layers of thinly laid acrylic paint over acrylic mediums and collaged papers
- Descriptive textural elements: cut papers, acrylic mediums, screening, mat board, wire, fabric, beads, plastic, fabric, foil
- Oil pastel highlights are added at the end of the process and the painting is finished with a clear acrylic varnish for surface protection
- The painting extends around all sides of the gallery wrapped canvas
