Bird to St Louis
20 x 20 x 1.5 inches
acrylic and mixed media on gallery wrap canvas

An abstracted aerial perspective painting of the St. Louis, Missouri region - shaped by the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. When I studied a Google map image of St Louis I was astounded at how green this city is. Even in the densest neighborhoods there are many parks, trees and grassy yards. Not far from the outer-belt you will find abundant farmland and large conservation areas.
The color field of this mixed media painting was applied with acrylic paint. I use acrylic mediums and papers to add texture to the surface and will paint over them. When the "painting part" is pretty well set I start to collage materials that act as descriptive elements - all kinds of things: screening, papers, cardboard, plastic shapes, glass beads etc.
