Once upon a time my young family and I lived 25 minutes north of NYC. We had friends who owned summer rental cabins on Cape Cod. They sometimes invited us there off-season. We would walk on the beach in the early morning when it was just the fishermen, the seagulls, the waves and us. It was a precious time. I can still hear the cawing of the seagulls against the crashing waves as I stare out at the horizon, wind in my face and sand between my toes.
