When traveling through the Midwest, I am always captivated by its unexpected geography—the sudden transitions from gentle prairie sandhills to stark, rocky buttes and flat plains. This painting grew from that awe, combined with the discovery that a prehistoric inland sea once bisected this entire continent. Through this piece, I wanted to capture not just the physical beauty of the land, but the deep, layered history hidden right beneath our feet.
